ok i was there  but i have forgoten how to get vb  to accept usb devices... i have install guestaddentions
i check devices at the top the devies are listed but greyed out
any help would be great thinks

Before you can access a USB device in VB, you must connect the device to your system and then set a USB rule in VB.

I've placed an example in the Gallery section of this forum.

Note:  You must be using the full version of VB.  The OSE version does not support USB devices.

Definition of upgrade - fix a couple of old bugs and introduce a bunch of new ones...

But I have already installed VB 4.0.2 and it is working fine. Didn't notice any difference.

phpVirtualBox

An open source, AJAX implementation of the VirtualBox user interface written in PHP. As a modern web interface, it allows you to access and control remote VirtualBox instances. Much of its verbage and some of its code is based on the (inactive) vboxweb project. phpVirtualBox was created for people (like me) who prefer not to have to log in to their headless VirtualBox host to administer their virtual machines.

This is new.  VirtualBox in a Web browser.

Oracle has released version 4.0.6 of its cross-platform VM VirtualBox desktop virtualisation application for x86 hardware, the third stable update to VirtualBox 4.0. According to the developers, the maintenance update features more than 50 changes and updates, including fixes for a variety of bugs found in VirtualBox 4.0.4, which added support for Ubuntu 11.04 guests.

The question came up at the last meeting about running the Mac OS X in Virtualbox:

Apparently, Oracle has no fear of Apple’s EULA or it’s possible that Apple is about to change. The latest version of VirtualBox allows you to create a Mac OS X Server virtual machine, 32 or 64-bit. Yep, it’s built-in to the VirtualBox list of available operating systems. So, is Oracle going to force Apple into virtualizing its beloved OS X or are we taking our own risks by installing OS X on non-Apple hardware? Apple, unfortunately, is never available for comment on any topic unless you’re one of their accepted pundits, so don’t expect to see their point of view expressed here.

We don't often talk about installing a Linux OS, like Ubuntu, in VirtualBox, but you may want to test a new or beta release in VB.

If you install a Linux kernel update in a guest OS, you may have to re-install the VB Guest Additions.

What Sucks Worse than Oracle's VirtualBox?

Everything. If you can find a better product for the price (free), please leave a comment and a link in Talkbacks. Actually, if you can find something better for under $100US, enlighten me with a name and a link. I’ve used VirtualBox since the Innotek days. Sun bought Innotek in 2008 and I was unshaken. In 2010, Oracle purchased Sun, and although I was shaken, I was not repulsed. I’ve stuck with VirtualBox through it all and am glad that I have. VirtualBox is my favorite free, cross-platform, desktop-level virtualization product. Ever.

I’ve used everything else and still, VirtualBox (VB) is my chosen desktop virtualization software. Although VB isn’t perfect, it’s the best solution I have.

VirtualBox 4.1 Beta 2 gains PCI passthrough support

VirtualBox 4.1 Beta 2 sees the addition of experimental PCI passthrough support for Linux hosts, which allows the Guest OS (VirtualMachine) to 'passthrough' the hypervisor and directly access physical hardware, such as a PCI ethernet card, improving overall performance. Other changes include showing the CPU cap in the VM details page, better out-of-memory error reporting, updates to the Linux and Windows installers, and fixes for USB 2.0 support for non-official builds, as well as a fix for a regression which prevented certain guests from booting. A possible data corruption related to Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) and Parallels images has also been corrected.

VirtualBox is becoming less and less virtual.
