Yup. The URL there pretty much sums it up. Should be interesting to see where this goes. I've personally loved OOo so as long as they don't screw it up, I'll stay happy.

Very cool.
I've been impressed with most of the Open Source office software.
I'm glad to see they are releasing it on multiple platforms. The more the merrier!

@ Likeminded and Doctor:
Y'all probably sub to TechRepublic's newsletters and may have already seen this article, but check it out if you haven't yet done so.
OpenOffice finally forked from Oracle's clutches
I have not yet DL'd LibreOffice, but plan to do so at some point. OOo is working well now, though, after correcting my earlier installation stumble, so no worries.

Gorgeous. Hope it's faster & less buggy than OOo too.

LibreOffice 3.3 Final Gives the OpenOffice.org Suite a Fresh Start
Quote
Windows/Mac/Linux: The first finalized release of the OpenOffice.org spin-off, LibreOffice, has hit the web at version 3.3. It's got a few unique features, an ever-so-slightly tweaked look, and the ability to export to Microsoft's DOCX format by default.
Nice!

Looking good & moving along very quickly. Excited to see it included in the next *buntu releases. Great example of FOSS at its best.

I've tried for two days to DL LibO, but the Document Foundation site appears to be having problems. I keep getting a "The connection has timed out" message, whether from Ubu, XP, or Vista. I finally got the Windows .exe file from Major Geeks, but they apparently don't "do" Linux. At least I couldn't find a download link for it there. Any ideas?

I was able to download the file within a few minutes:
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/
You may want to remove OpenOffice before installing. They don't seem to play well together.
It might be simpler to add the repository and install via Synaptic:

Yes, I know... Or by command line.
BTW, how long before someone starts calling it "Nacho LibreOffice?"

A year after the fork: LibreOffice is growing and going strong
Quote
Today marks the one-year anniversary of The Document Foundation (TDF) and the LibreOffice project, a promising community-driven fork of OpenOffice.org (OOo). The project has seen considerable growth during its first year of existence. TDF estimates that there are now 25 million LibreOffice users worldwide.
Happy Birthday!!!

Have you heard about those great LibreOffice extensions but have had a problem locating them? Well, those extensions (and templates) are going to be easier to find now thanks to The Document Foundation's new online repository.
