Red Hat Linux has demonstrated that there is a growing market for Linux.

Even in these tough economic times, customers see value in Linux and are willing to pay for additional serves and support.  This is good for all Linux related software because it gives increased legitimacy to the entire Linux movement.

How Red Hat killed its core product—and became a billion-dollar business

Quote
This week, at the end of its fiscal year on February 29, Red Hat marks a major milestone: it becomes the first billion-dollar-a-year company making its revenue entirely (or almost entirely) from building and maintaining open source software.

 Cool!

Celebrating 10 Years Of Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Quote
Red Hat has become the world's most successful company, purely based on an open source development model. Red Hat has proved that holding back the source code is not the only way to become successful. The success of Red Hat will encourage more companies to go open source and find modern models for revenue generation. Red Hat will be celebrating 10 successful years of Red Hat Enterprise Linux on May 15.

Red Hat: Big bucks, big Linux

Quote
In its 2013 second quarter, Red Hat saw total revenue for the quarter of $374 million. That was an increase of 16 percent in US dollars from 2012's second quarter. Subscription revenue for the quarter was $327 million, up 17 percent in U.S. dollars year-over-year.

Now, compare that to these two headlines:

Red Hat Falls After Second-Quarter Billings Trail Estimates

Linux distributor Red Hat's billings growth disappoints

Quote
Red Hat Inc, the world's largest commercial distributor of the Linux operating system, reported a slower growth in billings than analysts had expected.

Growth is growth!  But because the growth wasn't as much as the anal-ysts expected, they consider it a loss.  Really?  This is another good example of how Logic is rapidly losing ground in our modern culture.
